If the patient wants to avoid liposuction plastic surgery, the treatment provider may recommend CoolMini non-invasive procedure to reduce submental fat. CoolMini is a customized body contouring applicator from Zeltiq, the manufacturer of CoolSculpting.
The CoolMini applicator has been cleared by the FDA for the reduction of unwanted fat tissue around the neck area below the chin. MBody, led by board certified plastic surgeons, provides CoolMini neck fat treatment to patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and surrounding communities.

Ideally Suited for Neck Fat Reduction

Excess fat tissue below the chin is usually an area that can be difficult to treat with conventional non-surgical procedures. Therefore, Zeltiq came up with the CoolMini applicator, which has a unique shape, size and curvature that is specifically designed to address smaller pockets of fat in the submental region. The FDA has cleared the device for submental fat reduction.
The fat in this area can be difficult to reduce with diet and exercise, and CoolMini offers a completely non-invasive alternative treatment. Procedure in this small volume area can be completed with a similar level of efficacy as CoolSculpting. Unlike plastic surgery, CoolMini involves little to no downtime and no pain. The applicator has received overwhelmingly positive feedback from both patients and physicians.

    How does it Work?

CoolMini is designed to freeze away unwanted double chin fat. The technology is based upon the research of Harvard scientists who developed a unique cooling process to isolate and freeze targeted fat cells, which respond quickly to cold temperature. The frozen fat cells gradually die and disintegrate completely. They will be reduced from the body in the natural metabolic process, revealing slimmer and sculpted contours in the submental neck area.
In case of under chin fat reduction, the treatment provider may be able to deliver optimal outcomes in about two to three treatment sessions spaced one month apart from each other. The patient will be able to notice improvement in about three weeks, but the most dramatic outcomes can be seen in about two to three months. The process is non-surgical, enabling the patient to resume their regular activities immediately after the treatment.
Experienced plastic surgeons at MBody receive patients from Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg and nearby areas for CoolMini and various other procedures.

    Safety and Efficacy

One of the key advantages of CoolMini neck fat reduction procedure is that it avoids all the risks and complications that are typically associated with a cosmetic surgery procedure. The FDA clearance for CoolMini is based on data from a pivotal clinical trial involving 60 male and female patients in the age group of 22 to 65 years. Each of the patients received one to two treatments in the area below the chin, each six weeks apart. An average of 20 percent fat reduction was achieved in this trial.
No significant adverse events were reported and patients experienced little to no downtime or discomfort. These findings make CoolMini neck fat reduction an ideal procedure for busy moms, working people, and all others who want to avoid plastic surgery, but seek a more sculpted neck and chin appearance.

    Breast Augmentation vs. Breast Lift

Breast Augmentation vs. Breast Lift | Richmond | Vienna | AshburnSome of the major procedures in plastic surgery to enhance breast appearance include breast augmentation, breast lift, and breast reduction surgery. Several nuances exist in each procedure, and it is important for a patient to know the differences in order to make the right decision. Patients are typically uncertain about whether to opt for breast implants or breast lift surgery.
Sometimes it is more effective to combine both breast implants and breast lift in order to meet the unique aesthetic goals of a patient more closely. Dr. Sundin is an experienced plastic surgeon providing a wide range of procedures for the breast, body, and face.

    Larger-sized Breasts

The procedure that is specifically designed to increase breast size is breast augmentation. It is one of the most popular procedures in the US today. However, many times, the patients will ask if insertion of breast implants may also help to improve the position of the breasts and make them less saggy. An experienced plastic surgeon will inform the patients about the marginal benefits that breast augmentation may provide in terms of lifting the breasts, but primarily the goal of the procedure is only to increase the breast size.
Breast implant surgery will be recommended when the nipples and areolas are positioned near the breast center and not pointing downwards. If the breasts show some amount of skin beneath the areolas when looking straight on, it means the breasts are not very droopy. In such a case, marginal improvement in lifting of breasts may be achieved with implant surgery. Dr. Sundin will assess various factors closely before suggesting the most appropriate treatment approach to his patients in Northern Virginia, Richmond and nearby locations.

    Raised Position of Breasts

A breast lift surgery may be recommended in the following cases:

    • Patient is dissatisfied with the appearance of heavily sagging breasts.
    • Nipples are downward pointing.
    • Skin underneath the nipples is not visible when looking at the breasts straight on.
    • Patient is unhappy with the oversized areolas.
    • Patient is not agreeable to the idea of increasing the breast size any further.

    Breast Augmentation with Lift

Breast augmentation with breast lift may be performed in certain cases. The following conditions may be present when the surgeon recommends a combined surgery:

    • Severely sagging breasts.
    • Patient wants to achieve larger sized breasts along with firmer and lifted breasts.
    • Patient wants to increase breast size along with ensuring better projection and roundness of the breast mound.

When breast lift surgery is performed alone, it will not be possible to achieve fullness in the upper aspect of the breasts. Breast augmentation in conjunction with breast lift is required when the patient expresses the desire to achieve upper aspect fullness along with firmer and raised breasts. The surgeon will prepare a treatment plan after considering the unique aesthetic needs of a patient.

    Choosing a Surgeon

Prior to deciding about the surgeon, a patient should update their knowledge and understanding of what kind of surgeon may be more appropriate for them. If the patient wants to undergo a plastic surgery procedure, a general surgeon may not be the best choice. The patient should check whether the surgeon has received specific residency training in plastic surgery, which makes them a qualified plastic surgeon.
Even while choosing among plastic surgeons, a discerning choice must be made in order to have the procedure performed by the best authority in the field. The patient should check whether the plastic surgeon is board certified, and by which medical board. Among various medical boards in the US, the most prestigious and authoritative is the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS).
Both plastic surgeons at MBody are board certified by the ABPS. They receive patients from Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and nearby areas.

    Value of ABPS Board Certification

When a patient selects a surgeon with board certification from the ABPS, it will increase their chances of obtaining the highest quality plastic surgery treatment and very safe and desirable aesthetic outcomes. The ABPS is a member board of the American Board of Medical Specialties. It has highly stringent membership requirements.
A board certified plastic surgeon from the ABPS will have passed the tough standards of selection, and patients can feel assured that they are in the best hands. The surgeon would have proven and established expertise in both facial and body procedures. A board certified plastic surgeon would have completed at least five years of surgical training from a medical school, including minimum two years in a dedicated plastic surgery residency program.

    ASPS Member Surgeons

Extensive training in plastic surgery encompasses surgical procedures of the face and the complete body. Both Dr. Reps Sundin and Dr. Burton Sundin are also members of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). ASPS member surgeons in the US are required to meet rigorous standards. They should have completed a minimum of six years of surgical training with at least three years of residency training in plastic surgery.
They would have to clear comprehensive oral and written exams, and would be required to complete continuing medical education, including patient safety every year. They would perform surgeries in accredited, state licensed surgical facilities only, and would abide by a strict Code of Ethics. These rigorous standards ensure that the patients can receive best treatment from ABPS certified and ASPS member surgeons.

    Mommy Makeover Recovery Time

Mommy Makeover Recovery Time | Chevy Chase | Loudoun County | RestonMommy makeover is a major plastic surgery procedure involving a combination of different surgical and non-surgical procedures. Recovery time from mommy makeover will depend on the number and type of procedures to be performed. The advantage with a combined procedure is that the patient has to go through recovery only once for multiple surgeries.
An experienced plastic surgeon will choose an optimal combination of procedures to minimize recovery time in a mommy makeover and produce desirable outcomes. MBody provides mommy makeover to patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and surrounding locations.

    Recovery Process

The patient should plan to take time off from work for about two weeks following mommy makeover plastic surgery. Mothers of young children may need to arrange for childcare during this period. On the day of the surgery, the patient will need someone to drive her back home. Mild swelling and discomfort will be experienced in the incision sites.
In most cases, the irritation and inflammation will be relieved by the end of the first week. The surgeon will provide pain medications to keep the patient comfortable in the first few days. While she should take adequate rest in the first week, she should also do light walking around the home several times a day. This will stimulate blood circulation and support healing.
Drains and sutures may be removed around the end of the first week. Additional post-operative appointments may be scheduled at this time. Even after the patient has resumed her normal routine in about two weeks, she should continue to avoid heavy lifting and vigorous exercises for at least two more weeks.
Swelling will subside gradually over several weeks and months as the body settles into its new, youthful shape. Board certified plastic surgeons at MBody receive patients from Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and nearby areas for mommy makeover surgery.

    Faster Healing

To expedite healing, the patient can take several steps during recovery. The surgeon may instruct her to wear a bandage or compression garment over the treatment area for some time. It can help to mitigate swelling and allow easier healing of the skin. Certain medications, including blood thinners and vitamin E, will have to be avoided during recovery.
If the patient is a smoker, she will have to completely stop smoking during the recovery phase. Smoking restricts blood flow, and slows down the recovery. Risk of complications is higher for smokers and scarring can be more pronounced. Therefore, it is essential to stop smoking at least two week before and after the surgery.
The patient should eat a healthy diet full of lean protein, whole grains, veggies and fruits, and low fat dairy products. Such diet will stimulate healing, and long term healthy eating habits will enable the patient to maintain the results of her mommy makeover. Mild emotional side effects may occur for a few weeks after a mommy makeover, and a positive frame of mind should be maintained.

Liposuction vs. Kybella Injections to Remove Chin Fat

Liposuction vs. Kybella Injections to Remove Chin Fat | Vienna |McLeanAccumulation of excess fat deposits below the chin is a common occurrence, which can give an unsightly appearance of a double chin, or even triple chin. Both men and women can be affected with this condition, which can be corrected with liposuction plastic surgery or through a unique non-surgical injectable procedure called Kybella.
A treatment provider who may offer both liposuction and Kybella will educate the patient about the pros and cons of both, and help the patient make an informed choice. Board certified plastic surgeons at MBody provide these treatments to patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and surrounding locations.

    Suitable Candidates

An individual who is agreeable to the idea of undergoing an invasive surgery to achieve substantial chin fat reduction and a dramatic improvement to the chin contours may choose liposuction plastic surgery. The candidate should be fit to receive anesthesia, willing to accept the downtime and standard risks associated with any surgery, and prepared to afford the costs. The candidate should also be ready to go through the downtime involved, and follow the recovery instructions diligently.
Kybella injectable procedure, on the other hand, is more suited for candidates who are either unable or unwilling to receive an elective surgery such as liposuction. If the candidate’s first preference is a procedure with minimal risk, low costs, very little downtime and discomfort, and no requirement of general anesthesia, they should choose the FDA approved Kybella injections.

    Procedure

Liposuction should only be performed by a qualified and experienced plastic surgery, who should preferably be board certified. Several liposuction techniques are used today to remove chin fat in a less invasive manner. The surgeon may sometimes combine it with heat based technologies such as laser, ultrasound or radio frequency to achieve better effects.
Tumescent liposuction technique is most widely used today, which only involves local anesthesia. Incisions will be relatively smaller with this technique and the patient will recover faster. However, some amount of scarring is unavoidable with chin liposuction. A skilled surgeon will ensure that the scars remain discreet.
Kybella injectable procedure, on the hand, is entirely non-surgical and involves no cuts or incisions. Multiple injection treatment sessions will be required for Kybella, with each session lasting for about 20 minutes. The treatment provider will deliver the Kybella medication through several small injections during each treatment session.
MBody receives patients from Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and nearby areas for Kybella.

    Versatility

Kybella treatment has received the FDA’s approval only for the fat reduction in the submental area. Therefore, if the patient needs fat reduction in other areas of the body, they may have to consider other procedures.
Liposuction, on the other hand, is a more versatile procedure and can be used to reduce fat pockets in multiple areas at the same time. If the patient needs treatment in multiple areas for more even looking outcomes, they should discuss their best options with the plastic surgeon.

Liposuction vs. CoolSculpting | Metro Washington DC Area

Liposuction vs. CoolSculpting | Plastic Surgery | Richmond | ViennaStubborn fat deposits in certain areas of the body can create uneven body contours and compromise the overall appearance. Liposuction is the leading cosmetic surgery procedure to reduce unwanted fat pockets. Thousands of women and men regain more attractive and youthful contours with liposuction every year in the US.
However, not every patient may be ready to undergo a surgical procedure for body contouring. In such cases, where the patient is looking for a non-invasive alternative to liposuction, the plastic surgeon may offer CoolSculpting. It is a revolutionary non-surgical procedure to reduce fat deposits without involving any cuts, incisions or needles.
MBody is a leading aesthetic practice offering liposuction and CoolSculpting to patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and surrounding locations.

    What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a plastic surgery procedure involving one or more incisions in the targeted area to remove excess fat tissue. The surgeon will introduce a thin cannula through the incision to dislodge stubborn fat cells. These fats will be suctioned out through a syringe or suction pump attached to the other end of the cannula. After the fat removal, the surgeon will close the incisions with sutures.

    What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a unique non-invasive fat reduction treatment involving a highly innovative cooling process to reduce unwanted fat cells. The targeted area is exposed to a cold temperature, causing the fat cells to become frozen quickly. These fat cells will gradually die and get removed from the body in the natural metabolic process.
Leading cosmetic surgeons at MBody receive patients from Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and nearby areas for CoolSculpting procedure.

    Benefits of Liposuction

    • More comprehensive fat reduction is possible in comparison to CoolSculpting
    • Patients with large amounts of fat deposits can benefit significantly
    • Results will be visible quickly as the post-operative swelling resolves
    • Liposuction can be combined with laser, ultrasound or radio frequency techniques for more effective outcomes
    • Advanced techniques can be used to create specific aesthetic effects such as ‘six pack’ abs while performing liposuction
    • Liposuction can be combined with various other surgical or non-surgical procedures to create less invasive and more effective results

    Benefits of CoolSculpting

    • CoolSculpting is completely non-invasive, and patients who are unable or unwilling to receive surgery may easily choose this option
    • The procedure does not cause any pain during the treatment session or afterwards
    • Almost no downtime is involved in CoolSculpting, and most patient can simply return to their normal activities immediately.
    • Risks of side effects and complications that are typically associated with a surgical procedure such as liposuction are entirely avoided in case of CoolSculpting.
    • Fat cells are reduced with CoolSculpting in the treated areas.
    • The procedure is safe, FDA cleared, more affordable.

An experienced treatment provider will recommend the most appropriate body contouring procedure according to the patient’s unique needs.

    Permanent Makeup Application: Eyebrows

Permanent Makeup Application: Eyebrows | Chevy Chase | Vienna | McLeanMicroblading, commonly known as eyebrow embroidery, is a semi-permanent makeup procedure to improve or fully rebuild lost eyebrows. Unlike plastic surgery or other invasive procedures, microblading is a gentle, non-surgical way to restore natural looking eyebrow appearance.
MBody is a renowned and terrific practice led by board certified plastic surgeons providing microblading and various other cosmetic procedures. Patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and surrounding areas have an opportunity to receive this procedure at MBody.

    How is Microblading Performed?

The microblading eyebrow makeup procedure involves the use of a special pen to manually deposit pigment underneath the top layer of the skin in the eyebrow area. Microblading technique draws individual, sharp hair strokes that are more natural looking than an automated procedure. The blade used in microblading is three times thinner than the needles used for tattooing.
Therefore, the procedure is nearly painless when it is performed by an experienced treatment provider. The provider may apply a local numbing solution to minimize discomfort. The color is impacted close to the surface, and crisp strokes of the pen ensure there is no ‘spilling’ under the skin. The procedure does not require the existing brow hair to be shaved off, and does not damage them in any way. The entire procedure is usually completed in less than two hours.
Microblading must be performed at a professional facility where sterile environment can be ensured. The provider must disinfect the targeted area carefully, and make use of disposable pen, blades and micro-brushes. MBody plastic surgery and non-surgical practice receives patients from Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and nearby communities.

    Candidacy

Anyone who is bothered by the thinning hair or loss of hair in the eyebrow area, or simply wants thicker eyebrows for cosmetic reasons may be a good candidate for microblading procedure. People suffering from alopecia, trigonometrical, or any other condition that causes hair loss can ideally benefit from this procedure.
People with all kinds of original eyebrow color may make equally good candidates for microblading. The pigments used in this technique are formulated to match with the patient’s original eyebrow color. Therefore, if eyebrows are partially present, the new hair strokes will blend naturally into them. The right color and shape to fit the face will be decided prior to the procedure in consultation with the patient.

    Results

Most patients will be able to achieve a fuller, flawless natural looking eyebrow. The brows will initial appear darker, but will fade considerably over a period of next two weeks. It is usually recommended to have a touch up done because it is difficult to predict how well the skin may retain the pigment.
Results will usually last for about one year, and may even sustain up to 18 months in some cases. An annual touch up procedure will help to retain the shape and saturation of the pigment. No downtime is involved in this procedure.

Rhinoplasty (Nose Reshaping Surgery) Recovery | Richmond

Rhinoplasty (Nose Reshaping Surgery) Recovery | Richmond | Chevy ChaseRhinoplasty ranks among the top five most popular plastic surgery procedures in the US. While the surgery can be performed in less than two hours in the operating room, it will take some time to recover and see the final results. Patients should note that recovery is an important part of the treatment process and must not be taken lightly.
MBody is a premier practice led by board certified plastic surgeons providing rhinoplasty and various other procedures. The practice receives patients from Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and surrounding locations.

    Recovery Planning

Some advance planning prior to the recovery stage can ensure more comfort for the patient, and they can focus completely on their recovery. Patient should take the following steps in advance for a quicker and easier recovery after rhinoplasty plastic surgery:

    • Arrange for a friend or family member to drive the patient home after the procedure.
    • If the patient has little kids, arrange for help for a few days or have someone to assist the patient at home.
    • Working individuals should apply for at least one week off from work and another week with restricted movements.
    • Keep a supply of cold compresses at home to minimize post-operative swelling.
    • Any important household tasks or work responsibilities should preferably be completed before the surgery.

    Instructions for Recovery

It is important that the patient should follow the post-op instructions of the plastic surgeon as diligently as possible. This will help to ensure a safer and faster recovery. Pain and discomfort during recovery can be cut down with the following measures:

    • Stay hydrated and drink plenty of fluids through the day
    • Use cold compresses several times a day to reduce swelling
    • Take adequate rest during the first week, but perform short walks and light activities at home
    • Refrain from lifting heavy weights or doing any strenuous activities for at least two weeks
    • If any abnormal symptoms such as fever, pus in the wounds, severe pain in the incision area or excessive swelling are noticed, contact the surgeon immediately

    First Week after Surgery

Bruising, swelling, headaches and nosebleeds may occur in the first two to three days. The surgeon will prescribe pain relievers for the first week. The first day after surgery, the patient should rest with the head in an elevated position. Blowing the nose should be avoided for the first two to three days.
MBody receives patients from Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and nearby areas for rhinoplasty.

    New Few Weeks

After the first week, the first follow-up appointment will take place to monitor healing and to remove the nasal packing and sutures. Bruising will disappear by the second week, and swelling will begin to subside. Patients can usually return to work in the second week. Vigorous exercises should be avoided for at least two to four weeks to allow for complete healing.

Non-Surgical Hair Restoration in the Washington DC Area

Non-Surgical Hair Restoration in the Washington DC AreaA wide range of plastic surgery as well as non-surgical aesthetic procedures are available today to rejuvenate a person’s appearance. Dramatic advancements have also been made in the field of hair restoration. While hair transplant surgery is a major treatment option, a few highly innovative non-surgical treatments have also shown very promising results.
MBody is a well-known practice led by board certified plastic surgeons, which provides cutting edge non-surgical hair restoration procedures. MBody provides these procedures to patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and surrounding communities.

    ACell™ Hair Restoration

ACell™ is a unique cellular regeneration treatment that supports the body’s natural wound healing process. When this treatment is combined with the patient’s own cells to achieve hair re-growth, the results can be very positive. Highly encouraging results for hair restoration have been achieved when ACell is performed along with platelet rich plasma (PRP) therapy.
A combination of ACell™ and PRP is injected into the affected areas of the scalp to promote natural hair re-growth. The treatment can lead to miniaturized hair follicles becoming robust and larger in size. ACell™ activates the progenitor cells, while PRP growth factors promote localized cell growth and rapid angiogenesis. This FDA-cleared procedure is equally effective for both male and female pattern hair loss.
Non-hereditary hair loss conditions, alopecia areata, and eyebrow hypotrichosis can also be addressed with this treatment. MBody provides both plastic surgery and non-surgical procedures to patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredricksburg, and nearby areas.

    MatriStem Technology
ACell™ treatment is based on the cutting edge MatriStem technology. Unlike other techniques, MatriStem fundamentally improves healing by setting off new blood vessels and involving multiple cell types at the injury site. During the healing process, the scaffold is degraded and completed resorbed. This leaves the new tissue where typically the scar tissue would occur.

    PRP Therapy

PRP therapy can also be used as a standalone treatment to support hair restoration. This simple, non-surgical procedure can be performed in-office, without involving general anesthesia. Post-operative downtime is minimal or non-existent. To perform the PRP procedure, the treatment expert will draw the patient’s blood using standard techniques. The blood will be sent through a centrifugal process to separate the platelets from other plasma components.
Platelet activators and other vital growth proteins may be added to the PRP before it is applied to the scalp. The provider will apply a local anesthetic, and use a micro-needling roller device to stimulate the dermis of the targeted area. Micro injuries created to the surface of the scalp will trigger the body’s natural wound healing mechanism and prepare the body for PRP. Thereafter, the PRP will be delivered to the affected areas of the scalp using injections or topical application.
The patient will be able to notice visible improvement in hair growth and thickness in the first two to six months. Thereafter, PRP injections may be scheduled every three to nine months to achieve optimal hair re-growth.
