Liposuction (or lipoplasty) is a sought-after procedure for patients seeking body contouring through cosmetic surgery.
This procedure involves the sucking of fat from precise body areas to develop a desired physique. Patients usually choose this surgery to attain a slimmer appearance and enhanced body contours.
Liposuction, also known as “body sculpting,” is a common surgery to eliminate fat in the butt, abdomen, neck, thighs, legs, neck, and other parts of the body.
The procedure can effectively remove undesirable fat. But is it as effective in addressing other body issues, such as cellulite? This is an important question to consider if the patient wants to choose a cellulite reduction procedure.
Modern Body Contouring & Laser Center, led by board certified plastic surgeons Dr. Burton M. Sundin and Dr. Reps B. Sundin, provides liposuction to patients in Northern Virginia, Washington DC, Vienna, McLean, Loudoun, Ashburn, Tysons Corner, Reston, Arlington, Chevy Chase, Richmond, Fredericksburg, and surrounding communities.
What is Cellulite?
Cellulite is a frustrating issue as there seems to be no real reason for its development, and it appears to manifest regardless of body type or activity level.
It mostly affects women and is characterized by unattractive dimples on the butt and thighs, which may even be visible through certain clothing in severe cases. For women who are self-conscious of their cellulite, swimsuits and short skirts are usually out of the question.
Can Liposuction Eliminate Cellulite?
Cellulite is typically seen as unsightly. It is the dimpled effect of the skin that can be present on the hips and other body areas. Many women experience cellulite, specifically on the butt and thigh areas. It occurs due to fat deposits that are pushed upon the skin, leading to an unattractive rippling effect.
An experienced surgeon can understand the patients concerns about their cellulite. But if the patient seeks a procedure to remove their cellulite, liposuction is not a suitable choice for them. Liposuction will permanently eliminate fat from the body and change the physique. However, it will not remove cellulite.
To understand the treatment of cellulite, it is vital to first understand the reasons for its development. Cellulite dimples occur when the bands of connective tissue develop underneath the skin, pulling it downwards. For instance, if the skin were the back of a tufted couch, these bands would be the buttons pulling the fabric back towards the base.
Cellulite can appear worse due to excess fat. But fat is not a cause for cellulite development. For this reason, liposuction on the butt and thighs can only improve the appearance of cellulite marginally.
The thin skin on the buttocks and thighs can actually make the cellulite more visible. In older women, this symptom is more pronounced as their skin is usually less elastic.
There is some indication that laser and ultrasound-assisted liposuction can remove cellulite as they tighten the skin while eliminating fat. But these treatments alone are not adequate to remove cellulite.
How Can I Get Rid of Cellulite?
Liposuction plastic surgery removes fat from the body but does not eliminate cellulite entirely. There is no official remedy to address cellulite, but there are certain things that can help people reduce the appearance of dimpled skin. Exercising is a method to rid the body of cellulite. Weight reduction will help minimize cellulite.
No one likes to have cellulite on their body, but it is a natural occurrence. In general, cellulite is very common among women, and most women have it to some extent.
